Ole and Anna emigrated from Norway to America in 1870.
• Sometime around September 1876 Jesse James and his gang holed up in Ole and Anna's home. As the story goes it was around the time of the famous Northfield Bank robery but it was unclear if this took place before or after the bank robery. History has recorded that the james gang staked out several banks in the surrounding towns before they decided on Northfield as their choice. If I had to guess the incident at Ole and Anna's house took place before the robery otherwise, in my opinion, the story would have taken on a more dramatic tone. The James brothers were reported to be polite during the time they were at the Pederson residence and no one was harmed while they were there. The main thing they wanted was food water and shelter for the night after which they went on their way. This story was told to me my mother, Marion Small in the 1950s and then again in 2006 by my aunts Lu and Marie Schmalz who are the granddaughters of Ole and Anna. • She appeared on the census on June 15, 1880 in Highwater, Cottenwood, Minnesota - District 35. • She appeared on the census on June 21, 1900 in Highwater, Cottonwood, Minnesota - District 67. • She appeared on the census on May 5, 1910 in Lamberton, Redwood, Minnesota - District 115. Anna married Ole PEDERSON URNESS on July 23, 1863 in Kin Parish, Sogn Fjordane, Norway.1 (Ole PEDERSON URNESS was born in April 1836 in Norway and died on September 30, 1915 in Lamberton, Redwood, Minnesota, USA 6.) |
